held biotechnology company that specializes in biomedical research in
San Diego, has been awarded a $600,000 Phase I SBIR by the National Institutes
of Health. MSI will use its proprietary technology involving very large
combinatorial peptide libraries to identify and optimize peptide mimics
of HIV-1 epitopes for use in the design of prophylactic vaccines for the
treatment of HIV infections. These studies are conducted in collaboration
with clinical investigators at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit,

The $616,000 award will fund the project titled "Mimic Peptides of Human T cell Epitopes as HIV Vaccines." This collaborative project between MSI and June Kan-Mitchell of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute aims to develop effective human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) vaccines that will have major sociological and commercial consequences.
